Local Rowley Trails Have Something for Everyone!
Whether you’re a local native or just staying at Briar Barn Inn for the weekend, the Summer months provide the perfect opportunity to explore some of the many beautiful trails Rowley has to offer. Prospect Hill
Location: Parking area just south of White Farms on Rt 133/1A. and also in Rowley on Rte133 about 1/2 mile west of the intersection where 1A and Rt 133 split.
About: This trail is perfect if you’re looking for a quick morning walk, as it is less than a mile in total. Prospect Hill trail is placed in a nice wooded forest, which provides ample shade to walkers in the summer. This trail is great for those with an interest in birdwatching, as native species can be seen flying around the forest.
Rough Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary
Location: Patmos Road, Rowley
About: Discover a diverse assortment of plants and animals within this protected Marshland property. This sanctuary provides something for everyone; birdwatching, wildlife photography, light hiking, picnicking, and ecology. The series of five trails offer panoramic views of the Great Marsh, scenic overlooks, and open fields.
Hood Pond and Cleveland Farms
Location: Off Rt. 97 in Topsfield
About: If the summer heat has you beat, consider swimming or kayaking at Hood Pond! With abundant parking, and a clean sandy beach access, Hood Pond is a great local alternative to a crowded beach this summer. For those less aquatically inclined, there are miles of hiking trails throughout the nearby Willowdale State Forest.
